Markus Rindt receives the Erich Kästner Prize

On 2 December 2018 Markus Rindt was awarded the Erich Kästner Prize. The Presseclub Dresden honoured his manifold commitment for a better understanding of the peoples, against fanaticism and isolation and his tireless commitment for the Dresdner Sinfoniker, who have enriched the international cultural life for 20 years now with a positive signal from the city of Dresden.

For Markus Rindt this award is a very great honour – especially under the aspect that the Erich-Kästner-Prize was awarded in the past to such important personalities as Ignatz Bubis, Richard von Weizsäcker, Hans-Dietrich Genscher or Joachim Gauck. He thanked his family, his team and the musicians of the Dresdner Sinfoniker, who in the past have repeatedly contributed to his projects with great commitment and idealism.

On this occasion, we would like to recommend the MDR Classic Debate from October 29, 2018, where Markus Rindt talks to editor Thomas Bille about his biography, his curiosity about other cultures, the political significance of music and his work with the Dresdner Sinfoniker:

Markus Rindt will donate the full 10,000 euros in prize money to the Dresden initiative “Musaik – Grenzenloses Musizieren“, which was founded in September 2017 by music teachers Luise Börner and Deborah Oehler and is aimed free of charge at children from difficult economic or family backgrounds. In addition, the Dresdner Sinfoniker want to cooperate with this new orchestra from the Dresden Prohlis district and involve the children in a concert next year.
